Why can’t my child be placed with their friends?
Our teams are formed using standardized criteria to ensure fairness and equity for all players. While friendships are important, social preference is not a factor in team placement decisions.
Isn’t this an inclusion issue?
Inclusion focuses on removing barriers to participation (such as safety, disability, or access needs). Friendship requests are not considered barriers under Canada Soccer’s inclusion framework.
What if my child is nervous or shy?
It is completely normal for children to feel nervous at the start of a season. Our coaches are trained to create welcoming team environments, and most players adjust very quickly once the season begins.
Do you ever make exceptions?
Exceptions are considered only when there is a documented need related to accessibility, safety, or participation barriers. We do not make exceptions for personal or social preferences.
Isn’t it unfair to say no to everyone?
Actually, saying no to all placement requests is the most fair approach. It ensures that no family receives preferential treatment and that all players are treated equally.
Can I ask anyway, just in case?
We understand the impulse to ask, but to ensure fairness and consistency, we are unable to consider or track individual placement requests.
How does this help my child?
Being placed on a team with new teammates helps children:
Develop confidence
Learn teamwork and adaptability
Build new friendships
Experience the full benefits of sport participation
What if my child really struggles?
If concerns arise after the season begins, we encourage families to speak with the coach or the club through appropriate channels. We are committed to supporting positive experiences within the team environment.
